Founded in 1985, the School of Geography and Tourism of Qufu Normal University is situated in Rizhao, a beautiful coastal city. At present, the school has a staff of 56, including 4 professors, 20 associate professors, and 33 doctors. There are 1409 undergraduate students and 159 postgraduate students.

The School of Geography and Tourism has 5 departments, which are, the department of Geographical Science, the department of Resources and Environment, the department of Urban-Rural Planning, the department of Tourism Management and the department of Land Management. It also has the  Center of Land Studies and the Center of Tourism Development & Planning Studies. The school is equipped with multifunctional laboratory for digital geology and geomorphology, astronomy and meteorology, remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS), ecological environment, tourism training, land information, and spatial planning. 

The school currently has 3 majors for bachalor's degree: Geography (normal category), Tourism Management, and Land Resources Management. Geography is a specialty at provincial level and an application-oriented key specialty of Shandong province. The School has one first-level discipline authorization, which is, the master’s degree in geography. And three professional master’s degree authorizations: master of education, master of professional technology education, and master of tourism management. Human Geography is a key discipline in Shandong Province.

The School of Geography and Tourism has contributed a large number of outstanding talents to the society, many of whom have become the backbones or teaching and research leader in their working units. The school has made great achievements in many areas, such as land utilization, tourism planning and ecological construction. It has formed a discipline advantages in the field of environmental change and restoration, urban and regional development, land resources utilization and management, tourism resources protection and planning, RS (remote sensing) and GIS (geographic information system) application.
