The School of Political Science and Public Administration was formerly known as the Department of Political Education, established in September 1960. It was renamed as the Department of Economics, Law and Politics in May 2000, and then the School of Economics, Law and Politics in September 2002. In February 2006, it was divided into three schools, School of Politics and Social Development, School of Economics, and School of Law. In October 2010, School of Politics and Social Development was renamed as School of Political Science and Public Administration.                

In October 2015, the university reorganized and established the Faculty of Marxism, which includes School of Marxism and School of Political Science and Public Administration in order to meet the “Standards for the Construction of Ideological and Political Theory Courses”, “Standards for the Construction of School of Marxism” for Colleges and Universities by the Ministry of Education, considering the actual situation of "one university, two campuses", All the teachers, related majors and disciplines of the Department of the Ideological and Political Education of the former School of Political Science and Public Administration were transferred into School of Marxism.

Now, the new School of Political Science and Public Administration currently has 28 faculty members , including six professors, twelve associate professors. There are three undergraduate programs, four academic master's degree programs, and one doctoral program. It has formed a multi-level talents cultivation model. There are 220 full-time graduate students and 878 undergraduates.

The School of Political Science and Public Administration has four research institutes: Institute of Philosophy and Social Development, Institute of Political and Administrative Studies, Research Center for the New Rural Construction and Social Risk Assessment and Governance Research Center. In the past three years, the faculty has got approved projects from the Ministry of Education and the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science.
