The Department of College English was established in December 1996, offering English language courses to the undergraduates and graduates of non-English majors of Qufu Normal University. The Department has a teaching branch on the Rizhao campus.

The Department has built a well-organized team of 78 academics and 4 administrators. All the academics have a master degree or a PhD degree, including 2 professors and 23 associate professors, and 14 of them are master's thesis supervisors.

While fulfilling teaching duties, the academics have made great strides in research by completing many research programs, and won a number of national awards for outstanding teaching.

The Department values teaching reforms, and has implemented a variety of teaching approaches including differentiated instructions, integrated skill courses and process evaluations. Advanced facilities has been equipped for language learning and teaching, including language labs, multimedia terminals, radio stations and others. A series of networking platforms have been widely used as an efficient aid in English teaching.

Great importance has been attached to student development. The Department encourages students to participate in various English competitions such as the National English Competition for College Students (NECCS), the National English Speech Competition for College Students (NESCCS) and the National English Reading Contest (NERC). Mr. Zang Yingjie, a physics major, attended the NESCCS 2016 and won the championship, which highlights the excellence of the Department of College English.
