The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was founded in 1959. After a half century hard work, it has become a teacher education based teaching and research institute with the focuses on both polytechnics and undergraduate and graduate educations. The School is composed of four departments: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Green Chemistry, and Theoretical Chemistry and provides five undergraduate programs in chemistry, chemical engineering and technology, applied chemistry, material chemistry and pharmaceutical engineering, and five master’s programs in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and polymer chemistry and physics for both education and scientific research. Physical Chemistry of the School has become a key discipline in Shandong Province. The School also possesses Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Organic Chemistry for Life Science, Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Green Natural Products and Pharmaceutical Intermediates, 1 Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, 1 Shandong Province Leading Discipline, 1 Jining Outstanding Scientific and Technological Innovation team awarded by Jining City and 2 Taishan Scholar Programs.

The School has a faculty team of 88 members including 15 full professors, 24 associate professors, 29 lecturers, 4 senior and associate researchers and 8 technicians with strong teaching and research capabilities and high professionalism. Three of them are doctoral advisors and 46 are master advisors. Sixty two faculties have doctoral degrees, two of them are enrolled in Taishan Scholar Program, one is awarded Shandong Province Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution, one is nominated Shandong Province May 4th Medal Award, and one is awarded Outstanding Teacher of Shandong Province. The School provides great opportunities including continuing education and oversea exchange programs to promote the career developments of young teachers and researchers. The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering firmly grasps the opportunities for the development of higher education, expands rapidly, actively promotes the reform of the personnel training model and the curriculum teaching system, promotes the integration of “Production, Learning, and Research”, and strives to improve the quality of education and administration. The School opens labs to students of all levels to improve their research and innovation capabilities and has achieved significantly. At present, there are 150 master students and 1800 undergraduates enrolled in the School. The achievements of the School have been reported by many media including China Education Daily, the Dazhong Daily, Qilu Evening News, Public Network-Education Channel, People's Network-Shandong Window, United Daily News, and Shandong People's Broadcasting Station, etc. Since 1999, the students at the School have received 90 national and provincial awards and prizes, among which 17 are collectively awarded, 5 are second national prizes for individual competitions, 2 are special provincial prizes, 5 are first provincial prizes, 28 are second and third provincial prizes, and 40 other provincial awards.

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering strives to promote the scientific research and technology development. Since 2010, the School has completed 38 National Natural Science Fund projects and more than 60 National Ministry of Education and the Provincial Natural Fund projects including Provincial Outstanding Young Scientist Award Fund projects, and published over 120 scientific research papers each year, among which, more than 80 papers are indexed by SCI. Over 30 scientific research achievements have been awarded at the departmental level or above. The faculties of the School have won 8 national and provincial awards including the National Science and Technology Progress Award (second prize), Ministry of Education Scientific and Technological Progress Award (third prize) and the Shandong Province Scientific and Technological Progress Award (second and third prizes), and 6 Shandong Province Teaching Achievements and Experimental Techniques Awards (first, second and third prizes). Sixteen scientific research achievements have passed the appraisal and 19 innovations are patented nationally.

The School possesses 17,000 square meters of laboratories for basic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering and process, and analytical testing facility with the equipment worth more than 23 million Yuan. The School provides a variety of Chinese and foreign books, journals, and database information to all faculties and students.

In recent years, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has formed a fine hospitality of “Mingde, Mingzhi, Qiushi, Chuanxin”. A large number of excellent graduates with solid foundations and work styles have been trained for the higher education in Shandong Province and the country. Many well trained students work for national research institutes and prestigious universities to continue their academic career. The School aims to ‘“strengthen, grow, and expand” and adheres to the scientific development. Our faculty team strives to promote college personnel training, scientific research and technology development, and the quality and efficiency of school administration by improving both undergraduate and postgraduate educations.
