The Economic School was founded in 2006, with a history that can be traced back to the establishment of Department of Political Economics in 1960. Relying on profound culture and history background of our university, it identifies “Creating knowledge, Cultivating talents and Serving the nation” as mission, taking on a fast developing trend in an ongoing process of discipline construction, talents cultivation, academic research, local economic development service and internationalization in recent years.

The Economic School always pays attention to the cultivation of teachers and introduction of talents from domestic and abroad. It has 39 faculty staffs with 6 professors and 12 associate professors included, 25 of which are doctoral degrees including 4 overseas. There are 2 doctoral supervisors and 23 master’s supervisors. Two of them are included in the “100-talents project” for theoretical talents, one is in the “New talents” in Social Science of Shandong province. Besides, the School also invites plenty of experts and talents from financial sectors and large enterprises, domestic and abroad, as part-time teachers and postgraduate supervisors, three of whom are distinguished visiting Professors.

The Economic school concentrates on Disciplinary Development, Strengthens Major Construction, and enhances the ability and level of serving local economic and social development. There are three Province-level disciplinary teaching platforms, in which the Political economics is a key discipline in Shandong province, the "economic professional group" is a high-level Major in Shandong province, the Joint training base for graduate students in Finance cooperated with Bank of Rizhao are also provincial leveled. At present, A talent training system has been formed from undergraduate to doctoral student, which includes 5 majors for undergraduate students; one primary discipline Master programs for Theoretical Economics, and Master programs for Statistics, Finance, Regional Economics, Marx Economics and MPA; Doctoral programs for Economics and Marx Economics. Totally more than 1800 undergraduates and graduate students are learning in our school.

Our social research teams are based on theoretical application and innovative development of Economics, with their stable research directions, such as political economics, industry competitiveness, food safety management, trade finance and district economics. With great achievements, we are exerting great influence on relative fields in our nation. In recent five years, teachers in the school have presided and completed more than 50 scientific research projects at or above provincial levels, among which there are 13 projects supported by the National Social Science Fund and National Natural Science Fund, 8 supported by Humanities and Social Sciences Fund from the Ministry of Education, and more than 30 projects supported by provincial-level Social Science Fund, Natural Science Fund and Teaching Reform program fund. More than 20 monographs and textbooks are published, more than 300 papers have been published in core journals. More than 50 items of teaching and scientific research achievements have been awarded, ten of which are at provincial level.

In terms of cultivating talents, we persist in not only cultivating top professional talents in economics, but also satisfying society needs, focusing on training students' practical abilities. In recent years, more and more students due to their solid theoretical foundation laid in our school got enrolled for further study by Well-known institutions in China, such as the Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Shandong University, Ocean University of China, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Some of them even got admitted to foreign elite universities such as Boston University, University of Texas, University of Windsor and University College Cork.  Talents cultivation is in the tendency of internationalization. A large number of our graduates were admitted by Administration of Taxation, Banks, securities companies and other financial institutions, highlighting the feature and advantage of our employment. Based on the master's degree conferring spot in finance, the college founded its off-campus bases in cities of Jinan, Qingdao, and South of Shandong province, working a close cooperation with banks and financial firms. Our students won more than 100 awards in activities such as “Investigation of Shandong ", "Challenge Cup", "mathematical modeling" and "Securities simulation contest". Every year, many graduates won awards of the province-level “excellent graduation thesis” and the National level “innovation projects”.

Major of Economics was established in the year 2000. This major is a sub-discipline of Economics for undergraduate students, being regarded as provincial key major, Featured major, and Hot major as well.

Major of Economics aims to cultivate economic talents to master the basic theories and Knowledge of economics; to be familiar with national conditions and the basic principles, policies and regulations of economic construction and economic reform; to use tools of statistics and econometrics to analyze the present economic problems; Basic abilities of learning, writing, communicating, and good skills of using computer and information technologies etc.

Career Directions: comprehensive economic management department, policy research department, financial institutions and enterprises engaged in economic analysis, prediction, planning and economic management.

2.Major of Finance Engineering

Major of Finance Engineering was established in 2015. This major is a sub-discipline of Finance in the Economic discipline. Hot major, major for financial elite supported by the university and the school.

The major cultivation improves the professional quality of finance, enhances students' professional ability to analyze and deal with financial problems independently through Mathematical teaching and financial training. It highlights the characteristics of trade and finance, to cultivate high level talents for financial department management and professional technology, and applied financial engineering talents with international vision and innovative spirit. The major aims to help students develop an international perception and innovative spirits with the inter-disciplinary knowledge structure. Graduates should master theories and technologies of financial engineering, and knowledge of Economy, Management, Law and Finance. Financial mathematical technology is emphasized on. They should master methods and skills on enterprise (personal) investment and financing, financial product design, financial engineering software operation, etc., abilities to design, develop and implement financial tools, basic skills on products pricing and risk management.

Career Directions: Investment banks, commercial banks, hedge funds, insurance companies, financial departments of companies, etc., engaged in the valuation of securities and financial derivatives, portfolio management, risk management and market forecasting.

The major is to adapt to the trend of internationalization and globalization, focus on improving students' professional quality of economics, strengthen the operation and management ability of international trade and international business, and cultivate high end talents in the direction of international trade and international business. The students of this major should master the basic theories, basic knowledge and practical operating ability and analysis methods of international trade and economics; be familiar with trade regulations and business processes of WTO and different Countries; use statistics, econometrics and other methods to analyze international economy and trade practices；they should be proficient in using foreign languages and communication tools for cross-cultural communication.

Career directions: Graduates can be engaged in trade policy drawing, Trade managing and trade practices, market researches and development, sales management, and modern logistics management in policy research department and enterprise institutions.

4.Major of Human Resource Management

Major of human resource management was set up in 2005. This major is a sub-discipline of management, also regarded as our featured major and hot major.

With the characteristics of the cross integration of management and economics, we focus on improving the students' professional ability of accounting, finance and performance assessment, and cultivate high end talents in the development and management of human resources and the direction of international human resource management. The graduates should acquire the following knowledge and abilities: Basic theories and knowledge of management, economics and human resource management; Be familiar with the principles, policies and regulations related to human resource management; Grasp the qualitative and quantitative analysis methods of human resource management; Have strong abilities in language expressing, interpersonal skills, organizing; Master basic methods of literature search and data query.

Taking advantage of Mathematics and Statistics of our university, the major featured with the cross integration of Mathematics and Economics, with the emphasis on improving the theoretical and practical ability of the student quantity model, market research and data processing, and cultivating the high-end talents in the direction of insurance actuarial and industrial competitiveness. Major of Economic statistics aims to cultivate economic talents to master the basic theories and Knowledge of Economic statistics; to be familiar with national conditions and the basic principles, policies and regulations of economic construction and economic reform; to use tools of statistics and econometrics to analyze the present economic problems; Grasp the ability of statistical testing, data processing and analysis on complex economic and social problems.
