The School of Marxism, once named Marxist-Leninist teaching and research group, was founded in 1955 when the Qufu Normal University was preliminarily established, then renamed Marxist-Leninist teaching and research section, Marxist-Leninist teaching and research department, and finally renamed the School of Marxism in 2005. In October 2015, the University integrated and reorganized the discipline of Marxist theory and set up the new School of Marxism. The new School of Marxism is growing unprecedentedly in the scale and strength, it has become a "teaching-research type" college with strong faculty, a high level of the discipline construction, and has an important influence both inside and outside the province which is formed a multi-level personnel training system for full-time undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral candidates. In 2016, the School of Marxism was selected as the first batch of the key School of Marxism in Shandong universities.

The School of Marxism has a department of ideological and political education and six teaching and research sections. There are many research and service institutions, such as the research base of "life education and talent management" which is affiliated to the China Life Science Association, the research center of Confucianism and Marxism, the research center of cultural and social development, and the legal advisory service center of college students. The school now has 56 faculty members and 49 full-time teachers, including 9 professors (2 professors II ), 17 associate professors; 6 doctoral supervisors and 21 master's supervisors; and especially has 1 expert who enjoys the special government allowance of the State Council, 1 national model teacher, 1 national excellent ideological and political theory course’s teacher, 1 Special-term Professor of Taishan scholars, 1 young and middle-aged expert in Shandong Province with outstanding contributions, 1 teaching master in Shandong Province, 1 chief expert in key disciplines of Shandong Province, 2 members of the "100 people project" of theoretical talents in Shandong Province and 3 outstanding ideological and political education workers in colleges and universities in Shandong Province.

The school has a major of ideological and political education which is set up in 1960. It is one of the first batches of undergraduate majors established at the beginning of the establishment of the university, and now is the special major in Shandong Province and the key construction major of the characteristic famous university project in Shandong Province. This major devotes to cultivate politics teachers in middle schools and educators with a strong sense of social responsibility and humanistic feelings, a profound traditional cultural deposits and broad international vision who develops morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically, who has the ideas of modern education, the solid basic knowledge, basic theories, and basic skills of ideological and political education, and who has high political quality, moral quality and Marxist quality, understands the development frontier and academic trends of the major of ideological and political education, has strong innovative abilities about discipline teaching and researching. Moreover, this major is also committed to training high-level professionals who can engage in ideological and political work in party and government offices, enterprises and institutions.

The education and teaching effect of the school is remarkable. It has a teaching team which focus on Marxist theory in Shandong Province, offices of ideological and political theory teaching masters in colleges and universities in Shandong Province, three excellent courses in Shandong Province, including the "Ideological and Moral Cultivation and the fundamentals of the Law", "The History of the People's Republic of China" and "Introduction to Law". The teaching achievements have won 1 first prize, 3 second prize and 5 third prize in excellent teaching achievements of Shandong Province. In the past two years, two teachers in our school were awarded the title of "the Teaching Pacesetter of Ideological and Political Courses in the National Colleges and Universities" and "the Teaching Backbone of Ideological and Political Courses in the National Colleges and Universities" respectively in the display of Ideological and political courses in national universities and colleges held by the Ministry of education; and two teachers were selected as the "Annual Influential Nominee of Teachers of Ideological and Political Courses in the National Colleges and Universities" in this display. In the second teaching contest of Shandong universities for teachers of Ideological and political courses, two young teachers in our school won the first prize, and two young teachers won second prize. The levels and numbers of our received prizes are the leading in the whole province.

The discipline constructions and research works of the school have made brilliant achievements. Now the school has the post-doctoral research station of Marxist theory, the doctorate authorization point of the first-level discipline of Marxist theory and also has nine master's points, such as the authorization point of the master's degree in the first-level discipline of Marxist theory, the authorization point of the master's degree in the history of the Communist Party of China, the authorization point of the master's degree in the subject teaching which means the ideological and political education in here, and the like; has the research base of the Sinicization of Marxism in Shandong Province, Key disciplines of the history of the Communist Party of China in Shandong Province, Chinese excellent traditional culture and social practice research base for teachers of ideological and political courses in colleges and universities in Shandong Province. In recent years, faculty members have undertaken over 60 national-level, provincial and ministerial level topics, including key projects of the National Social Science Fund, general projects and youth projects which have a total of 11; and the school has published more than 30 monographs and textbooks, and more than 180 papers in important academic periodicals, such as "Studies on Marxism", "Philosophical Researches", "Marxism & Reality", "Contemporary World and Socialism", "CPC History Studies", "Leading Journal of Ideological & Theoretical Education" and so on; the research achievements received 12 provincial and ministerial level awards, including 2 first prize, 5 second prize, and more than 10 third prize in social sciences of Shandong Province.

"Raising the banner, spreading the truth, educating youth and molding souls, fulfilling missions and achieving goals" is the "College Motto" of the school, and is the core value pursuit of all faculty and staff. The school attaches great importance to and strengthens the cultural construction of "respecting knowledge and respecting talents", and has formed a harmonious relationship between the party and the government, the relationship between the cadres and the masses, the relationship of colleagues and the relationship between teachers and students. Looking forward to the future, under the leadership of the party committee of the university, the school of Marxism will stand on the new historical starting point, thoroughly apply the construction standard of ideological and political theory courses in universities put forward by the Ministry of Education and the construction standards of the school of Marxism, will deepen the reform of the teaching of ideological and political theory courses, strengthen the discipline construction of Marxist theory, and make greater contribution to the completion of the fundamental task of the "carrying forward morality and nurturing youth" in the university.
