As the first educational high-end think tank based on big data research in China, the Chinese Academy of Education Big Data is jointly built by the China Statistical Information Service Center and Qufu Normal University. The former is an institution directly subordinated to the National Bureau of Statistics, and is approved by the SCOPSR. The latter is located in the key university of the hometown of Confucius in Shandong Province. The Institute was established in September 2015 and was granted the first batch of key new think tanks in Shandong Province in September 2016.

The Institute insists on serving the national strategy for strengthening the country’s education as the primary task, focusing on major practical issues in education policy and educational practice, and striving to highlight the orientation and role of the new type of characteristic think tank: to carry out basic, strategic, forward-looking research, continue to promote the interdisciplinary research results of the data provide big data and services for education reform and education decision-making; the establishment of education big data personnel training and collaborative innovation center; scientific research on education big data and the cultivation of innovative talents; the conversion of education big data research results and application centers, promote the transformation and application of results; build an international think-tank resource platform, build high-quality research results with an international perspective and increase the right to speak in the world of education.

The Institute strives to build a high-level research team that combines experts in Multidisciplinary fields such as education, psychology, mathematical statistics, information technology, and software engineering as well as domestic and foreign researchers. Currently it has a national candidate for " New Century Talents Project ", "four batches" of the theoretical talents of the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education funded experts for the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" , 2 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from Shandong Province, and it has appointed dozens of professional and part-time researchers in the fields of education philosophy, education policy, education quality monitoring, psychological statistics, and big data mining analysis technology.

At the initial stage of construction, the institute focuses on the following areas: national public opinion tracking of major education policies, basic education quality monitoring, precision poverty alleviation education based on big data, school governance and performance evaluation, national identity and education strategies of outstanding traditional culture, physical health monitoring of students in universities, middle schools and primary schools, an analysis of students’ cognitive trends and development trends of vocational majors, a comparative study of mathematics, reading and science literacy among Chinese and foreign primary and middle school students, and educational and teaching strategies. The research results "China Education Hotspot Study", "Research Report on Examination Recruitment System Reform", and "China University Reputation Index Research Report" have attracted wide attention at home and abroad; In December 2015, they led the launch of more than ten colleges and universities and educational and research institutions. "China Education Big Data Development Promotion Plan" took the lead in putting forward a "road map" to promote the development of China's educational big data; building China's first "full media and big data teaching experience center"; "China Education News" as "a reform of education in the era of big data". The topic of "targeted treatment" has come to an in-depth interview with the principal of Qi Wanxue and the principals of the partners, and made a full-page report; "Educated studies without education - disruptive innovations in the "Internet +" Era of Pedagogy Reprinted in the full text of the Xinhua Digest; "The Consistency Analysis of Basic Education Textbooks and Curriculum Standards" was submitted to the Ministry of Education for consultation. The "Research on the Current Situation and Mechanism Innovation of Precise Poverty Alleviation in Shandong Province" has been included in the government's key decision-making and consultation topics.

The Institute is based on the purpose of deep cooperation, complementary advantages, and collaborative innovation. It is in the Ministry of Education and Education Development Research Center in China, Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, Yunnan Normal University, Shandong Institute of Education Science, Huaibei Normal University, and other think tanks establish cooperative relationships with social institutions, and cooperate with overseas WVS and TIMSS research centers to strengthen international exchange and sharing of educational information and education data. The Institute is currently laying out and building a regional center for research on education big data (a branch and a research base) covering the whole country. In November 2016, it held the "Big Data-Driven International Conference on Educational Change and the First Chinese Education Big Data Development Forum" and initiated the establishment of it. Chinese Education Big Data Development Alliance.

Facing the future, the Institute will continue to uphold the basic values of "being aware of the ideals of the future, realizing the public's vision of reality, rational exploration of professionalism, and ethical and ethical research", and persisting in the direction of innovation, excellence, and licensing.
