The 13th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu from December 3 to 5. More than 1500 university presidents and representatives of Confucius Institutes around the world got together to advice for the reform and development of Confucius Institutes. The Vice President of our university Xin Jie attended the conference companied by the representatives of the International Exchange Cooperation Center.
The conference themed with “Facilitating the New development through reform and innovation, forging a bright future with cooperated efforts”, was divided into 2 Panel Discussions, 8 President Forums and 20 Workshops. All of them were carried out by surrounding the issues of “Innovation in Education Model and Operation Mechanism of Confucius Institutes”, and “Construction of the Digital of Confucius Institute”.
During the conference, our vice-Chancellor met both the Chinese and Foreign presidents of the New Brunswick Confucius Institute in Canada and the Anton Confucius Institute in Korean. And they communicated and discussed the issues of exchanges and cooperation with our university. The representatives of our university took part in the workshop and listened to the experience shared by the president of the New Brunswick Confucius Institute of Canada.
Some institutes and people were commended for their outstanding contributions to the development of Confucius Institutes on the conference, which showed us the strong power of the overseas Confucius Institutes in promotion of Chinese-teaching and broadcast of Chinese culture.
It is reported that there are over 548 Confucius Institutes, 1193 Confucius Classes opened in Middle and Primary School, and 5665 Chinese-teaching spots in 154 countries since the establish of the first Confucius Institute in 2004. There are more than 46,000 full or part time Chinese and foreign teachers, with the amount of 11,000,000 people joining these teaching activities. These institutes hold kinds of activities to attract hundreds of millions people to experience Chinese culture. All of those have successfully constructed the most diverse international language education network.
